Cholesteatoma is typically treated with surgery, as it involves abnormal skin growth in the middle ear that can lead to serious complications if left untreated. While non-surgical approaches may be considered in certain cases, they primarily focus on managing symptoms rather than curing the condition. Treatments such as antibiotics or ear drops can help address secondary infections or reduce inflammation caused by the cholesteatoma. Regular ear cleaning by an ENT specialist may also be recommended to remove debris and reduce the risk of infections. In very mild cases with no significant symptoms or complications, close monitoring by a specialist might be an option. However, these measures cannot remove the cholesteatoma, and surgery is generally advised to prevent complications like hearing loss, infections, or damage to surrounding structures.
