The treatment of anemia depends on its underlying cause. For iron deficiency anemia, oral iron supplements like ferrous sulfate are commonly used, along with dietary changes to include iron-rich foods such as red meat, leafy greens, beans, and fortified cereals. It’s essential to address any causes of blood loss, such as heavy menstrual bleeding or gastrointestinal issues, to prevent recurrence.
For vitamin B12 or folate deficiency anemia, supplementation with vitamin B12 (injections or oral) or folic acid is recommended. Incorporating B12 and folate-rich foods, such as eggs, dairy, fish, leafy greens, and fortified cereals, can also help restore normal levels.
