Slip disc

sadaqat asked 6 months ago

Hello, I have lately been informed after an X-ray, that my chronic lower back pain infact is a case of slipdisc. The pain had gotten worst in the recent months (before the doc confirmed) to a point that I wake up with the pain and if I walk or stand for few a minute or so, the pain gets aggrivated. I am using a back brace currently but that hardly helps. I also have been diagnosed earlier this year to have hypothyroidism and high blood sugar (diabetes) due to all this. Compounding factor has been assessive weight gain which is worstening the pain. Any remedy other then pain kilelrs and physio? cos neither is helping.

Hi. I’m sorry to hear this and I understand this must be very frustrating. May I ask what have you tried for pain relief so far ? Have you tried epidural steroid / pain injections ? Are your currently on appropriate medication for hypothyroidism?
I would recommend seeing a spine specialist and getting an MRI to evaluate the extent of disc herniation and guide further management based on that like epidural pain injection or surgical management like spinal decompression. For starters I would recommend seeing a spine surgeon at the earliest.

First of all do an mri scan for evaluation of herniation and then use OTC pain killer for pain relief along with rest and physio .if these treatment dont work then consult a spine surgery he will decide to do discectomy or micro discectomy as surgery is the ultimate treatment of choice for non resolving disc herniation pain.
